What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a medical procedure where Botulinum Toxin, more commonly known as Botox®, is injected into the area of concern. This is where the Botox® blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles meaning that the injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. It is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines.

Below are some examples of areas where Botox® is regularly used…

Forehead Lines

Frown Lines

Eyebrow Lift

Crows Feet

Bunny Lines

Nose Tip Lift

Lipstick Lines

Marionette Lines

Jawline Slimming

Dimpled Chin

Nefertiti Neck Lift

What having Botox® involves

Your face will be cleaned, and botulinum toxin will be injected into muscles in your face using a very fine needle.

You'll need injections in various places, depending on the area or number of areas you have chosen to be treated. You'll be asked to move the muscles in your face to help find the best place for the injections.

When should you not have Botox®?

There are instances where Botox® injections are not recommended, including:

  • You have a skin infection
  • You’re unwell in any way
  • You have a neuromuscular condition e.g. myasthenia gravis
  • You’re taking certain medicines (discussed your consultation)
  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding

Crows Feet

Crows feet or ‘laughter lines’ are wrinkles by the side of the eye near the temple and corners of the mouth. They are usually caused naturally by aging, smoking and repetitive movement of the face i.e laughing and smiling or constant squinting.

These side wrinkles disappear, when we relax our eyes and face, however, as we age it becomes part of our eyes and does not disappear. Botox® works on the same pattern as it helps to relax the muscle and stop the creases at the side of our eyes. In Crows feet treatment, we use injections such as Botox® to help you to regain your natural younger look.

This treatment is one of our upper facial treatment areas.

Bunny Lines

The wrinkles that appear at the top and by the sides of your nose when you smile are what we call ‘Bunny Lines’. For many people bunny lines are a natural consequence of aging but in recent years they have become a tell-tale sign as to whether celebrities have had mass amounts of Botox®. At D.A we recommend maintaining a healthy balance between the 3 areas of the face; forehead, eye area and the bunny lines to keep a more natural look.

Lipstick / Smokers Lip Lines

These are the vertical lines around our lips which are often most noticeable on people who smoke or regularly do any activity where the lips are pursed e.g. whistling.

A small amount of dermal filler can smooth out these lines giving a rejuvenated look without over-inflating the lips. A little more can be used if a plumper lip look is desired.
